I saw the great Colombia team of Carlos Valderrama, Rene Higuita and Tino Asprilla at Wembley in 1989, and have had a soft spot for the team ever since. With the wonderful players that they’ve produced it’s surprising that next Friday (July 4th) will be their first ever World Cup quarter-finals. It seems that this team is about to supersede that team, if it hasn’t already.
In 2010 I spent some time with a local football team in Elephant & Castle, London, made up of Colombians and one Peruvian. My aim was to document the Colombian community in south London and to look at their reasons for migrating to London. I decided to do this through football.
This multimedia piece was produced as part of a project and I’ll be posting more from it next Friday.
